Hi Substack! I’ve been releasing a song demo every month to my Patreon since 2018. Sometimes it’s a rough smartphone recording, sometimes it’s a radio-ready release. Most of them are somewhere in between. But I'll be cross-posting my Songs of the Month here to Substack, leaving the story and lyrics open for everyone, but the audio itself for paid members. Enjoy.
for some of you who have been around the @ Little Spiral @ galaxy for a while, you might remember that in July 2021, i released this funky, self-produced new-disco song about mansplaining called Million Dollar Words to patrons. now i do NOT expect everyone to remember every song i drop every month, let alone one released three freaking years ago. but i use that amnesia to freshen up some of the songs i have in this membership.
and freshen up i did! i worked with a fantastic producer and a brilliant rap artist to turn it from funky to hip-hop, from bouncy to biting, and i think i love it.
we still need to add some layers, tune it up and properly mix the thing, but the beauty of the Song of the Month Club is that deadlines don't care how perfect it is, it just needs to be done.
i don't think it's my first hip-hop song i've written, but it sure as hell is my favorite.
i also can’t recall another song out there about mansplaining… do you know of any?
tell me below!
Million Dollar Words
@ Lyrics @
big words when i'm talking to you
yeah i know what you're trying to do
intimidate me
look dude i can hold my own
but you've got to start using a known
vocabulary
i know that talk is cheap
but paying you attention is a hell of a fee
cuz i have never heard
so many million dollar words
thrown around just to cheapen me
save those million dollar words
save those million dollar words
those million dollar words
[RAP VERSE]
Million dollar words for a million dollar baby (you)
I’ll put your ass to shame don’t you ever try to play me (True)
Can’t you treat me like an equal? Of one of two people?
Delete the need for denigration, social or cerebral
You ignominious jerk, get rid of your smirk, irredeemable
You live for getting me irked, go finish your work, unbelievable
Using words as weapons, two can play that game
But I'll make you wish you never disrespected my name
i know that talk is cheap
but paying you attention is a hell of a fee
cuz i have never heard
so many million dollar words
thrown around just to cheapen me
save those million dollar words
those million dollar words
those million dollar words
